SOME of the best para-cyclists in the world will be in Dumfries and Galloway this week for the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships.
The region will welcome the para-cycling road races and time trials from August 9-12.
And all of the action will take place in Dumfries and surrounding streets at Terregles, Shawhead, Crichton and Glencaple.
The finish line for the time trials will be at the Whitesands, while the Crichton Estate will mark the end of the road race.
Para-cycling includes riders with cerebral palsy, visual impairments and physical impairments. Road riders cycle one of four different styles of bikes – a typical road bike, tandem, handcycle and tricycle. The style of bike they ride depends on the impairment.
The events in the region are part of 11 days of cycling action all across Scotland which will see athletes compete for 13 world championships across a range of different disciplines.
