Indoor courts to open early 2025

They say the new three court facility will increase participation in the sport and give tennis club’s in the region a place to train at all-year-round.

A council spokesperson this week said: “The new facility can guarantee tennis provision all year round providing a top-class facility not only for recreational activity but for development squads across all ages.

“This will enable significantly more young people to enter a tennis pathway with comprehensive coaching and schools’ programmes.

“Through partnership working with the Dumfries and Galloway Tennis Development group, the facility will accommodate programmed activity for all our region’s clubs to benefit.

“We are finalising our external funding package at present and are aiming towards a facility that is available from early 2025.”

Dumfries Tennis Club convenor and lead coach Michael Goldie very much welcomes the new ‘overdue’ facility, he said: “We as a club, and I as a coach, district committee member and player, welcome this long overdue facility to the region.

“With this facility we now have a chance to grow tennis with all year round play in a consistent environment, currently at Dumfries TC we play and coach all year round but outside conditions and temperature can change very much on a day to day basis.

“This will be a slow burner as it takes time to build a new environment but for the long term it is all good for the tennis community.”
