Slot car club running charity endurance race
RACING TO SCALE . . . British slot car racing champion Ant Hawkes formed the Dumfries Slot Car Club in March 2023

DUMFRIES Slot Car Club will be hosting an endurance race for charity to raise money for Cancer Research UK and the YMCA.

Taking place on September 30 at the YMCA building in Lochside Road where the club is based, the race will be done on the club’s 100 foot four-lane track.

Already, over £500 has been raised and we are hoping to achieve at least that much for both charities by the date of the race.

Teams from Cheshire, Lancashire, Dumfries and the newly-formed junior team from Dunfermline will be participating in the race.

Each team will race a single car for a continuous three hours and it is expected that the fastest cars will reach more than 1500 laps in the three-hour race. That is equivalent to 28 miles, or over 900 miles in scale terms.

The race will begin at 11am and spectators are welcome to attend, alongside new members for the club’s Monday and Thursday club nights.
