A LANGHOLM artist has painted the famous Sycamore Gap tree in remembrance after it was felled last month.
Helen Foster, owner of Helen’s Pastel Portraits, is a self-taught artist residing in the Muckletoon.
After five years of silence on social media, Helen this week posted a pastel piece of the sycamore tree, based on the last photo of the tree taken before it was felled.
She said: “I saw the picture of the tree on social media and I heard the story about what happened to it, and I knew I had to draw it.
“I started working on the project last Friday evening and finished it on Saturday morning.
“I even have prints available to those who would be interested in them.”
The tree was a Northumberland landmark that used to grow in a natural dip of the landscape near Hexham, but was chopped down overnight on September 27, in what’s believed to have been a deliberate act of vandalism. Police are investigating the incident, which has caused a nationwide outcry.
It was among the UK’s most photographed trees and was thought to be about 300 years old.
