A NEW petition opposing the introduction of parking charges in Moffat has been circulating this week.
It was created by long-time Moffat resident Roy Anderton-Tyers, left, as a ‘pre-emptive strike’ to Dumfries and Galloway Council’s ongoing consultation on parking across the region. He said: “As a resident of Moffat, I’ve seen first-hand how our town serves as a welcoming point for visitors and travellers.
“The council seems to have the impression that Moffat is this bustling place and there’s money to be made from parking charges. But our free parking has always been an integral part of what we offer to these guests.
“It’s no use trying to change things after the fact so that’s why the petition is available to sign now, because the council need to be aware that every community is different.”
Roy’s petition follows on from Moffat and District Community Council’s criticism of the parking consultations and their disappointment that the Annandale North drop-in event will be held in Lockerbie next Wednesday and not in Moffat.
The Lockerbie sessions will be at the Hawthorn Room in Lockerbie Town Hall between 3-5 pm and 6-8 pm next Wednesday. An online consultation is also scheduled for Tuesday November 14 at 3 pm.
