RESIDENTS in the Beattock and Moffat areas are being encouraged to attend a public consultation event on plans for a new £50 million battery energy storage system (BESS).
It is being proposed on land at Milton Farm near Beattock by Renewco Power.
The firm has submitted a Proposal of Application Notice to Dumfries and Galloway Council and launched a 12-week pre-application statutory consultation period.
And representatives will be at Beattock Village Hall on Tuesday November 28 to meet residents and share more information on the 49MW development, which will consist of containerised battery units and will be connected to the Moffat substation.
Richard Koiak, from Glasgow based Renewco Power, yesterday said:
“We are delighted to be bringing forward proposals for a new battery storage facility at Milton Farm, approximately 1.6km southeast of Beattock. As Scotland aims to be a leader in the global move away from reliance on fossil fuels, projects such as this one will be vital in allowing renewable energy to be stored until it is needed during spikes in national demand.
“We would encourage anyone who is interested in the proposals to come along to the event. The Project Team will be on hand to answer any questions or concerns regarding the proposals.
“The involvement of the local community is a key priority for Renewco, and we are looking forward to gathering feedback on the development which can be incorporated into updated plans to be consulted on in early 2024.”
A dedicated project website will also go live at the end of November.
Feedback from the initial consultation event is due by December 12.
