VEHICLE speed checks were carried out in Lochmaben last week but there’s concerns that the Police Scotland stats doesn’t show “a true representation”.
PC Lee Barnfather told members of the burgh’s community council on Tuesday night that 54 vehicles were checked and resulted in an average speed of 24.85 mph on the High Street, near the war memorial.
However, community council chairwoman Kenelma McCrae was wary of the statistics.
She said: “My concern is that people will slow down when they see you and it doesn’t really show a true representation.
“I know families dread crossing the High Street road due to the speeds the vehicles are travelling at. I just think there should be a better place to carry out the checks.”
PC Barnfather stated that because it was for statistical use that they had to be visible when carrying out the checks.
He added: “The stats show that vehicles were being driven within the safe speeds at that point.”
