TWELVE community groups and charities in Annandale and Nithsdale are to benefit from windfarm funding.
They are sharing over £120,000 in the latest funding round from the Annandale and Nithsdale Community Benefit Company (ANCBC).
The awards all aim to support the rural regeneration and sustainability of local communities in the area.
Nith Inshore Rescue are getting £20,000 towards the costs of refitting the St John Lifeboat, and the purchase of equipment to ensure the lifeboat is fit for purpose for the next ten years.
There’s also £20,000 for Dumfries and Galloway Aviation Museum to help restore the WW2 control tower; and the same for Nith Valley Leaf Trust towards the costs of a permanent community ‘roundhouse’ on Closeburn Playing Field.
Lockerbie Ice Rink SCIO have been awarded £19,740 to contribute to replacement doors, windows and flooring, while Solway Sk8ing Club will use their £11,418 on core costs and allowing members to participate in competitions and get expert coaching.
Moffat’s Proudfoot Indoor Sports and Social Club secured £10,000 to put up a new wooden storage unit; while £6000 was awarded to Dumfries and Galloway Care Trust to support a new polytunnel project, aimed at providing support to adults with learning disabilities, and the wider community; and Marchmount Bowling Club got £5800 to buy a new lawnmower.
Awards of £2000 are being made to Peter Pan Moat Brae Trust to deliver the Book Explorers project in Lochside; to Back Onside to provide mental health counselling locally; Moffat Show Society for purchase folding tables; and Restoring Annan’s Water for the cost of a polytunnel and root trainers.
The ANCBC fund began grant making in 2015 and since then has awarded over £2 million to projects across the 42 community council areas that make up its area of benefit.
Funding decisions are made by a volunteer board of local people, and the ANCBC funds are administered by Foundation Scotland.
