DUMFRIES’ very own sustainable tartan will be showcased this weekend at a fashion show in town.
The Re:Dress Scotland’s slow fashion tartan has been officially registered under the name ‘Re:Dress The Brave’.
Re:Dress Scotland is a Dumfries-based organisation, run by volunteers and supported by local Scottish artisans, that has taken a modern spin on the fashion industry through its sustainable ideologies. It was founded in 2021 with an aim to ‘encourage creativity in fashion through using clothing and textiles already in circulation.’ Explaining how the tartan came about, a spokesperson said: “We wanted to create something new to help promote our work on the creative side of slow fashion. Something traditional but, obviously, a bit punk. Something that celebrates grassroots environmental activism. Something that celebrates our Scottish artisans and designers, and, at the same time, promotes Dumfries and Galloway as a growing centre for slow fashion. Something that lasts.

The team is now busy preparing for their sellout sustainable fashion show at the Easterbrook Hall on Saturday night. Now in its third year, the catwalk will host a variety of pieces which are all ‘remade, recycled, vintage, preowned or sustainable.’ And the new tartan will be at the centre of it all with designer Jonny MacKinnon also showing off his textiles on the runway.
