OVER £4000 has been raised for two hospitals who helped a Moffat man through his cancer journey.
Billy Garrett was only given months to live after he was diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndrome, a rare blood cancer, in November 2021. But thanks to a lifesaving stem cell transplant, from his son Alan, Billy is on the mend.
As a thank you, the Garrett family organised two events to raise money for the Oncology and Haematology ward at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary and the Queen Elizabeth ward four transplant unit for all the wonderful support they gave them in their time of need.
A coffee morning and a dance was held at Moffat Town Hall on Saturday.
And Billy’s wife, Anne, revealed the day was a success. She said: “We have raised over £4000 which is a fantastic amount.
“We’d like to thank Moffat Town Hall and all the volunteers. Also we’d like to thank everyone who donated raffle prizes, cakes for the coffee morning, bottles and everyone who attended coffee morning and dance.”
