ANNAN Fire Station held an event to mark the retirement of George Warwick after 20 years and 23 days of service.

Watch commander Ian Marshall presented George with a statue from his colleagues at the fire station, while station commander Chris Ross presented him with a certificate and tally from the service.

George joined the service when it was still called Dumfries and Galloway Fire Brigade back in 2003.

While a lot of changes have taken place throughout his time in the service, including changing to the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, George has enjoyed his time as a firefighter serving the community of Annan and surrounding areas.

Watch Commander Ian Marshall said: “George will be missed at the station, but he has given a large part of his life to it and now it’s time to sit back and take it easy.”

And he noted that Annan Station are currently recruiting and would welcome anyone who has what it takes to become a firefighter or is interested in finding out what the job entails.

They are holding a recruitment walk-in evening on November 21 from 5.30-7.30 pm and WC Marshall added: “Feel free to come along and speak to one of the crew. In 20 years, you might be the one retiring!”
