Annan cadets get a smart TV for Christmas

THE cadets have just been given a Smart TV from the Black and Gold Foundation to assist in delivering lessons.

The Annan detachment of the West Lowland Battalion Army Cadet Force received the gift earlier this week, to replace their ageing overhead projector.

It means the youngsters will be able to do their lesson plans on a laptop and show them off on a 55 inch Smart TV.

Detachment Commander Colour Sergeant Graeme MacDonald said: “We want to thank the Black and Gold Foundation for this very important piece of equipment.

“It allows senior cadets and Cadet Force adult volunteers to deliver lessons by directly plugging into the Smart TV, rather than having to use a cumbersome overhead projector and screen.”

Black and Gold Foundation secretary and Annan Athletic Football Club chairman Russell Brown said: “The Army Cadets in Annan are now an integral part of the community.

“We see them everywhere supporting the community from Poppy Scotland Collections to Remembrance and other events, the Cadet Forces are excellent ambassadors for their towns and villages.

“We are very pleased to help out in anyway we can to help them become better citizens of Annan.”

Archie Dryburgh MBE, the detachment’s patron, trustee of the Black and Gold Foundation and the Armed Forces Champion for Dumfries and Galloway Council, said: “Many people will know that many years ago I was the detachment commander and training officer for the cadets in D&G.

“Research has been completed recently on the positive benefit of being in the cadet forces, but the cadets do need help with equipment and support with ensuring the Annan detachment name is out there. When I asked the Black and Gold Foundation to help out they jumped at the chance, a huge thank you to them.”
