QUEEN of the South’s Craig McGuffie is unsure if his superb solo goal against Annan in Saturday’s derby clash is the best of his career, but he admits that it’s certainly up there.
The 26-year-old lit up Palmerston with an outstanding piece of individual skill to level the game at 1-1 in the first half.
He twisted and turned his way through the Annan defence before rolling the ball into the net for the equaliser.
McGuffie said: “I was saying to the boys that I actually can’t even remember it. I think I just kind of had my back to goal and turned then thought I may as well go for it.
“I think I nutmegged somebody coming inside then just faked the shot again and it went in.
“I can’t wait to see it back to be honest, because I can’t really remember!”
The midfielder is, however, unsure if the goal is his best as he has previously scored from the halfway line for Falkirk.
He said: “I’ve scored from the halfway line before. I think that’s probably the best. But it’s definitely up there.
“It’s a different type of goal. Maybe I do prefer it because it’s probably more my game – trying to take people on and make something happen.”
On the game, McGuffie added: “It was probably what you’d expect from a derby, there were lots of tackles and cards.
“We showed another side to us today and came out with a win and that’s all that matters.
“I think they were always going to make it hard for us at the end.
“I thought all the boys did well. I think you need a bit of luck at times but I think we were the better team overall.”
Looking ahead to Saturday’s trip to Falkirk, McGuffie – who had a spell with the Bairns – said: “That’s three wins out of the last four and we’re unbeaten in the last four, so I think it shows a lot of character.
“We’ve got a hard game next week now and need to focus on that.
“I think every time we’ve played Falkirk we’ve given them a good game and hopefully we can do it again.”
