AN energy firm boss has praised his staff in Dumfries and Galloway who worked flat out yesterday to reconnect power to 18,000 homes.
And they managed the mammoth feat by 2 pm yesterday afternoon.
SP Energy Networks revealed Storm Jocelyn had damaged the network, affecting the electricity supply to 18,000 homes locally early yesterday morning.
However, engineers worked through the day, in tough conditions, and managed to get everyone reconnected by 2 pm.
Praising his team, SP Energy Networks chief operating officer Guy Jefferson said: “The last few days have seen a colossal team effort to tackle the extensive storm damage experienced across our network from Storms Isha and Jocelyn and to support our customers as we worked to get the lights back on safely and quickly.
“We understand the impact of a power cut on our customers and thank them for their support and recognition of the challenging conditions facing our teams as they worked round the clock to restore supplies. In some areas, trees were literally falling around them while they battled the elements to get the job done.
“While we’ve now seen the last of Isha and Jocelyn and we are back to business as usual, we fully expect there will be more storms to come and our teams will continue to be at the ready.”
