Barrier call amid accident fears on eroding road

Annandale South councillor Sean Marshall has voiced his concerns about a stretch of the C43 near to Stapleton crossroads after noticing a rapid deterioration of the verge in the last six weeks.
And he is calling on Dumfries and Galloway Council to take prompt action amid fears there could be an accident.
Councillor Marshall said: “I have noticed it getting worse and am putting together a report with Councillor Ronnie Ogilvie based on the deterioration of some roads in and around Annan and Eastriggs.
“They need to start building up the bank as if it’s left for much longer it could get further erosion that would undermine the carriageway.”
He added: “There is also a lot of verge damage as there is not space for two large vehicles to pass and in this situation there would not be enough verge to pull onto so one of the vehicles may end up falling in the ditch or there could be some sort of accident.
“There needs to be some sort of signage or barriers put up to alert drivers there is a bank danger. As the verges are quite overgrown it is not clear that there is not a lot of verge there and it’s ready to collapse.”
Noting the concerns, a council spokesman said: “We are aware of the issue, have inspected the road and are currently exploring repair
options.”
