POTHOLES continue to cause havoc for road users in Annandale.
And some of the defects which blight the region’s roads were highlighted on two routes by one Annan driver this week.
Neil Sharkey was in need of a new tyre after he hit a deep pothole driving near Cummertrees on the B724.
And he was later shocked to find the road between Blacketlees Farm and Brydekirk was covered in them after going on a walk in the area.
Neil captured some of the worst on camera and said: “The roads are a disgrace, another guy came into Express Tyres with pothole damage while I was getting a new tyre.
“There is going to be a major accident caused by these holes.
“They could send a team out identifying the holes and putting yellow paint round them so at least you could avoid them. As it is, they fill with water and you’ve no chance.”
Dumfries and Galloway Council say they were already aware of defects on both of these routes – and that works on one of them are already underway.
They also said there are no current plans to paint over road defects.
A council spokesman said: “Works to the defects on the B724 commenced on Tuesday March 5, works on the Brydekirk to Howes road have not yet been programmed as the service is prioritising defects.
“The roads service was successful in a bid to increase funding over the next five years by £30m in 23/24.
“The funds have provided the service the opportunity to increase internal capacity to deliver routine maintenance activities.
“In addition to routine activities, the funding has provided the service with the funding to programme and commence delivery of a larger capital investment programme of surfacing works, surface dressing and drainage works across the road network in Dumfries and Galloway.”
