Double-amputee Steve Jack set himself the challenge of getting up the 368m Latrigg Fell near Keswick on Friday to raise money for ten-year-old Joshua Graham who has cerebral palsy.
The youngster needs a Trekinetic wheelchair and Innowalk machine.
And proceeds raised by Steve will go towards helping to purchase the equipment needed by Joshua to maintain and improve his strength, independence and mobility.
When Steve first opened the fundraising page he thought it would be a great achievement just to reach his initial £500 target.
Now he has almost achieved the £2000 mark after the fell climb, as well as a raffle and a bonus ball for a signed Annan Athletic football.
Steve said: “I was pushing into a headwind all the way up to the top. I was a little bit sore on Saturday and Sunday, but it just felt like I’d been to the gym.
“I’m happy and proud that I’ve done it. I have always wanted to try something like that.”
Steve was joined by his personal trainer Louise Aiston, friend Gary Pettit, a relative of Joshua and a TV crew from ITV Border.
He was up and down in about an hour.
Steve added: “I’ve got a signed football that will be getting drawn on Saturday. That will take the total raised to about £2000.
“When I set the JustGiving page up, they automatically put the target at £500. The most I have ever got in a fundraiser in the past was about £300. I thought I would leave it at £500 and I smashed right through it.
“I have been blown away.”
Steve has still not met Joshua, but he plans to go and visit him and hand over the money once it has all been collected.
And he has already got his sights set on another fundraising challenge, the X Border 10k next February.
