DISAPPOINTMENT has been expressed after Lockerbie was turned down for a banking hub.
Resident George Trudt has been campaigning to get one set up, with the help of Annandale North Cllr Stephen Thompson.
But yesterday he shared some disappointing news, saying: “Following a visit by a link assessor, the conclusion is that Lockerbie has adequate provisions to their set criteria on ‘access to cash’.
“Their correspondence recognises our disappointment and frustrations at not having adequate provisions for face-to-face banking and they indicated that Link will soon become regulated by the FCA and there may be some changes to the regulated guidelines.”
However, Mr Trudt isn’t giving up and added: “I’ve found quite a lot of media and political information online regarding the abysmal roll out of banking hubs, continuing High Street bank closures and the lack of face-to-face banking in our communities, particularly for the most vulnerable in our society.
“This is an election year and an opportunity for us to continue our campaign. There are only 37 hubs currently in the entire UK and only eight are in Scotland, which has an extensive rural population. Eight new ones have been announced last month and none are in Scotland.”
