Chris is on his marks for new world record

A LOCH Ken man will push his body to the limits as he prepares to to break a world record by becoming the first and the fastest person ever to run 32 ultramarathons.

The adventurer Chris Thomson will put his best foot forward for an ambitious challenge designed to raise awareness and support for mental and physical health. He intends to run 32 ultramarathons – 33 miles a day – in all 32 council areas of Scotland within 32 days and covering 1056 miles in total.

His challenge will begin on Wednesday June 5 in Dumfries and end on Saturday July 6 in Edinburgh.

And the feat will pay tribute to a close friend of his who tragically took his own life due to mental health difficulties at the age of 33. Chris said: “I’m doing this for all those we’ve lost to mental health battles and cruel physical illnesses. They may be gone, but their memory will fuel every step of this journey. Having my own struggles too, I know the importance of keeping ourselves healthy.

“I will be running for Movember, Mind, Dementia UK, British Heart Foundation, MNDA, My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, and Maggie’s Cancer Centre. All of these charities are lifelines for so many, and together, with the public’s support, we can make a real difference as I am to raise over £100,000.”
