TWO recruitment events were held at Dumfries and Galloway College as part of this year’s Scottish Apprenticeship Week.
Employers were on hand at both sessions, in Dumfries and Stranraer,
to talk about the apprenticeship roles available and tell candidates how to apply for them.
Participating businesses included DG Project Solutions, Drax, Kellwood Engineering, Scottish Power, Armstrong Watson, SDS, Verdant Leisure, Wheatley Homes, Barend Holiday Village and Sparklers Private Nursery.
More than 150 would-be apprentices attended.
Meanwhile, some existing apprentices were also there to share their stories, including Thomas Cawkwell, who is employed by the college, and Finn Patterson, a former Foundation Apprentice student who has also gone on to a degree apprenticeship with Airbus UK in Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering.
Thomas, pictured, said: “I wanted to be an apprentice so I could advance my career and learn on the job.”
Also commenting was carpentry and joinery apprentice James Megale, who said: “My apprenticeship in joinery has let me formalise my skills and experience, advancing my career opportunities.”
College principal Joanna Campbell said: “Our recruitment events in Stranraer and Dumfries were great opportunities for both candidates and employers to connect during Scottish Apprenticeship Week.
