TWO schoolgirls were hospitalised this week after they told staff they had both taken drugs.
The 13-year-olds were taken to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary from Dalbeattie High School on Wednesday.
The S2 pupils had reported feeling unwell and then told school staff that they had both consumed drugs. It is reported that one of them had collapsed.
The duo were taken to the hospital and were later discharged.
Dumfries and Galloway Council confirmed the incident and said it would be followed up as part of the school’s policy on drugs.
In a statement the local authority said: “We are aware of an incident that took place on, Wednesday April 17, involving two pupils at Dalbeattie High School.
“The pupils reported feeling unwell late yesterday morning and informed school staff that they had both consumed drugs.
“Both pupils were taken to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary to be examined, and were later discharged following that examination.
“The matter is now being followed up by Police Scotland, as per the school’s Drug and Substance Use Incident Guidance Policy.
“Support is, and will continue to be, made available to any of the pupils and staff of the school in relation to drug misuse.”
And Police Scotland say enquiries are ongoing to figure out what exactly happened.
Inspector Stewart McColm said: “Around 2.10 pm on Wednesday, April 17, we received a report that two 13-year-old girls had taken unwell following possible drugs misuse at a school in Dalbeattie.
“They were both taken by ambulance to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Hospital where they were checked over then discharged.
“Enquiries are ongoing and we are working with our partners to establish the exact circumstances surrounding this incident.”
