No interest in casino

HOPES of a casino in Stranraer are fading after no operators expressed an interest in taking on the licence – for the second time.

Dumfries and Galloway Council had been advertising the casino licence – but got no takers.

It’s unclear if it will go out to tender again.

However, the idea has been slammed by South Scotland MSP Carol Mochan.

She is concerned about the effects of gambling and said: “A waterfront casino would do little for the town’s economy.

“This has been proposed before, and there was nobody willing to come forward. We should throw out these unnecessary plans once and for all.”

Stranraer was first given a casino licence in 2007 by the UK Government but both attempts since then to find an operator have proved successful.
