Eleanor’s efforts are hair-raising!

MOFFAT mum Eleanor Murray has a new look – and it’s all for a good cause.

She has shaved her head for charity, raising over £3300 in the process for the oncology department at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary.

She was spurred on to fundraise after supporting a close friend through cancer treatment at the hospital.

Eleanor said: “She is currently undergoing chemotherapy and immunotherapy. In July 2021 she was diagnosed with stage four cervical cancer, she then received radiotherapy treatment in November and was given the all clear in February 2022.

“Seven months on she was suffering with back pain again, only to be told that the cancer was back and in her lymph nodes. Radiotherapy was not an option this time and therefore she underwent major surgery to have the nodes removed.

“Initially this proved to have been a success, however fast forward to November 2023 and it was confirmed that she had to start chemotherapy and immunotherapy. The treatment started in December 2023 and is due to finish this month.”

Eleanor hopes her shave, which was carried out by Gail Borthwick at Mava Salon, as well as the monies raised, will help her friend’s recovery.

And discussing her new look, she added: “I thought I would find it cold but I’m actually quite enjoying it and have embraced it.

“It’s the least I could do to support my friend, it’s only hair and it’ll grow back, albeit with a few wee silver ones in there!”
