A FILM crew is in Lockerbie for the second day of shooting for a new series based on the 1988 air disaster – but their presence has caused some disquiet among locals.
Filming is today focused inside the town hall, although some parts of the High Street are coned off near the building and residents may notice equipment vehicles parked in the town centre.
The scenes in question will show the senior investigating officer leading the Scottish investigation updating UK families on the progress of the trial, as well as a recreation of one of the satellite viewing sites that gave remote access to the trial in the Netherlands.
Yesterday’s action was at the Dryfesdale Cemetery, pictured, and then Tundergarth Church.
At the cemetery, the show’s main characters came together to remember those who lost their lives for the final episode the series, while the dedication of the Tundergarth memorial was recreated up there, including an explanation of Eagle’s Wings commemoration.
World Productions are making the six-parter for the BBC and a spokesperson reiterated last week’s reassurances, printed in this paper, saying: “The scenes being filmed are being treated with the utmost sensitivity and we have been liaising with the council and community throughout.
“We have also notified the families of those who lost their lives in the disaster so that they were able to feedback any concerns.
“Whenever shooting exterior scenes, we will be identifiable with Hi Viz vests and will also have filming notice signs in place near the location to make you aware of our activity. There may be occasions when you are politely asked (but not instructed) to wait for a few moments while exterior filming takes place.”
However, the decision to film locally has received a mixed reaction, with some residents expressing their distaste on social media and denouncing the move.
‘Lockerbie’ is written by Jonathan Lee and the cast includes Patrick J Adams, Peter Mullan, Eddie Marsan, Phyllis Logan, Tony Curran and Connor Swindells.
