A SPECIAL plaque has been erected on a Lockerbie building to honour a former resident.
It has been unveiled on the old premises of Cormack & Byers in Victoria Square.
And it’s to remember the late William Fleming Cormack (Bill) MBE, 1920-2002, on the place where he was born and spent his working life.
A lawyer and archaeologist, Bill explored many sites locally and had a particular interest in the Mesolithic period. He was awarded his MBE in 1995 for services to archaeology in South West Scotland.
However, he also served in WWII and was a prisoner of war in Germany and Italy.
Local historian George Trudt was asked to do the honours by Katherine and Steven Wales, who are restoring the property as a townhouse, which they will live in.
They said: “With thanks to George Trudt, of Lockerbie Past and Present, the Cormack family and Dumfries and Galloway Natural History and Antiquarian Society, we were finally able to unveil a plaque dedicated to William Cormack MBE on our home today.
“Now that the building has a new life, it’s important to remember its amazing history and former occupants of the building.”
