VOTERS heading to the polls today are reminded to take along a valid form of photo identification.
For the first time at a UK General Election, anyone using a polling station needs to show photo identification such as a passport or driving licence.
Other valid forms of ID include those bearing the Proof of Age Standards Scheme hologram (a PASS card), for example, a Young Scot card.
Travel passes such as the Scottish National Entitlement Card, issued to under 22s and the over 60s for free bus rides, can also be used.
Only original versions will be accepted, not copies, and the ID can be out of date as long as the voter still looks like the photo.
The regional polling stations for the General Election opened at 7 am and will close at 10 pm tonight.
Postal votes can also be handed in at polling stations.
Thereafter the count for both the Dumfriesshire, Clydesdale and Tweeddale seat and the Dumfries and Galloway constituency will take place at DG1 leisure centre in Dumfries, from 10 pm.
The results for both areas are expected in the early hours.
