Debut wins for new boxing club

A FLEDGLING boxing club in Annan has enjoyed its first round of wins.

The Solway Spartan Boxing Club travelled to Carlisle for fighters Robert Horan and Marek Borkowski to put their new-found skills to the test.
Coaches Terry Bruton and Paul Ewart took the fighters to Hilltop in Carlisle for the show of 18 fights.
Marek went head-to-head with Stephen Jardine and stopped him in the second round.
Coach Terry explained that Marek kept his hands up, made good use of the ring and listened to instructions from his corner.
The fight night was brought to a close by Robert who fought Ian Hall in the last match of the show.
Terry said: “Bob controlled the fight in every round, moving really well.
“Bob’s punches where really sharp and strong and he made good use of his own right hand.”
He was declared winner on points – much to the delight of his coaches.
Terry said: “These were our first fights out of the club and to come away with two wins has made me so proud.”
He added: “It was also great to meet people and make new contacts for future fights, we are hoping to have another show in Carlisle by the end of the year and we hope to go further afield.
“But it is still early days and we are still just getting going.”
The club has also recently benefited from a £100 grant from the Chapelcross Snowball Fund.
They would like to extend their thanks and say the money will be well-spent to purchase new equipment.
