DOZENS of Annan residents attended a community event to hear about plans to transform part of the town and build much-needed new affordable homes.
The event on Monday evening, at St Andrew’s Social Club, was hosted by Wheatley Homes South, which is leading the regeneration proposals for the Newington area.
Plans and concept housing designs for the regeneration were on display, highlighting the proposed improvements for the area.
The housing provider hope to go to planning next month.
This newspaper also understands that there are no plans for new flats to be built by Wheatley in Annan; a social media post circulating had suggested there were plans for 36 flats in the Springbells area.
Alex Lamb, managing director of Wheatley Homes South, said: “We were pleased to see so many people attend our event and hear the positive feedback to our proposals.
“Events like these are crucial to community-led regenerations as they provide an excellent opportunity for us to share our vision and gather valuable feedback from the community.
“Our plans for Newington are progressing as planned and we are on track to submit our planning application for 46 new homes for social rent in September.
“The plans focus on creating much-needed modern, energy-efficient homes that meet the region’s high demand for affordable housing.”
The work in Annan forms part of Wheatley’s regeneration plans for Dumfries and Galloway, which will see 800 new homes built across the region.
All new homes will feature low-carbon technologies, including solar panels, energy-efficient heating, and high levels of insulation.
Other community-led regenerations are underway at Lochside and Summerhill in Dumfries.
