A public engagement drop-in will be held at the Market Hall on Thursday August 29 – from 2 pm to 4 pm and 5 pm to 7 pm – to review potential locations for replacement footbridges on the river.

Those in attendance will be able to view and comment on the feasibility study work carried out so far as well as ask questions.

Representatives from Dumfries and Galloway Council and project design consultant Amey will be on hand to answer queries.

For those unable to attend, all materials displayed at the event will be made available to view online.

A survey will also be live from August 23 until September 8, and can be accessed at forms.office.com/e/8vcRcj5Tvs. Meanwhile, a paper copy is available at Annan Library.

A Tale of Two Bridges chairman Stuart Thompson said: “This is where we are at now and obviously what we need to get is ideas and feedback from the general public.

“We cannot print any feasibility study without input from the local community.

“We would like as many people to come along as possible. All of those involved will be there to take questions and come back with answers.”

The aim is for the feasibility study to be completed by the end of September, in time to be presented ahead of the third anniversary of the bridges being washed away on October 28. It will include details such as the design and cost.

Having a study to hand is vital for the group to then go and explore the various funding avenues that are available to them.

Stuart added: “The feasibility study will be the document that we can go forward with. As far as the group is concerned, we have reached a tremendous milestone.”

Stuart also expressed his ambition to have the First Minister visit the town and have a look at the feasibility study as the third anniversary of the bridges being washed away approaches.

But in the meantime he, along with the rest of the Tale of Two Bridges Group, are hoping to see as many people as possible at the Market Hall event.
