Cup triumph

GRETNA 2008 Walking Football made the short journey to Penrith at the weekend for the Cumberland Cup Walking Football Competition.

It was a good day of football for the lads in Black and White: in their first outing they lost 1-0 to Workington. But they followed it up with a 2-0 win against Carlisle Greens, Mark and Johnny getting on the score sheet. Next they defeated Queens 1-0, courtesy of Mark. After the round robin they finished second to Workington. And the top two played off in a final for the coveted trophy. Dek’s goal helped Gretna to a 1-1 draw. Penalties ensued and the Raydale side came out on top, winning the shoot-out 3-2.

If anyone fancies giving walking football a try, the team train on a Monday night from 7-8 pm at Raydale Park Gretna, first session free.
