RIVER RUBBISH . . . some of the dozens of cans and bottles recovered from the River Annan

ABOUT 360 kilogrammes of rubbish has been recovered from the River Annan this year.

The litter removal is part of the River Annan District Salmon Fishery Board’s litter pick project which began earlier this year.

Now that the project has reached its half-way point the team took to social media this week to share their progress.

A spokesperson for the fishery board said on Wednesday: “The River Annan litter pick is now beyond the half way point for the first sweep of the river with a second sweep planned for early 2025.

“So far, 65 bags of litter, 360 kilogrammes has been collected by the team.

“The next section is a clean up of a flood plain on the middle river which is planned for next week where a lot of agricultural rubbish has collected including tractor/ trailer wheels and tyres, old oil drums and lots of plastic buckets and containers.”

Anyone wishing to help with the litter pick, is asked to get in contact with the team, via Facebook, to be and put you in contact with the project coordinator.
