Roger’s lifesaving defib map

A MAP showing the position of every defibrillator in Lockerbie and close villages has been compiled.

Details of the where the life-saving machines are situated have been collected by the town’s community councillor, and Rotarian, Roger Claymore to better publicise their locations and help plan the placement of further new equipment.

The map is expected to be placed in Lockerbie Town Hall and other copies will be handed out to shops and other establishments within the area.

On the importance of having the map and defibs, Roger yesterday said: “Heart attacks are happening all the time but the number of times you hear people’s lives are being saved by defibs is incredible.

“You don’t need to be old to have a heart attack, it’s very important we have these machines in every part of the area.

“I managed to get a large copy of the plan of Lockerbie and it was easy. Hopefully this can help save lives too.”

Whilst pinpointing the defibs locations, Roger noticed a lack of the machinery in the West Acres area in Lockerbie.

After speaking to residents, a fundraiser was set up and they managed to secure a defib which is now located on Vallance Drive.

Roger said: “Here was a void area where there were no defibs. I spoke to people if they were interested in putting together a fundraiser so we could have a defibrillator in the area.

“There were various meetings and I handed out a lot of leaflets showing how important they are.”

In about a month they had managed to raise just under £4000.

But they are trying to get a second defib in the area and are almost at target but need a final nudge to get over the line.

Meanwhile, the public have been invited to attend a ‘how to use a defibrillator’ training session next month.

The event – which is being co-run by Lockerbie Fire Station and the community council – takes place on Saturday, November 23, between 10 am and 12 pm at the fire station.
