AN application has been lodged to build an access road, footpaths and drainage infrastructure on part of the old runway adjacent to Chapelcross.
The South of Scotland Enterprise (SOSE) has submitted the application to Dumfries and Galloway Council.
A masterplan for the future of Chapelcross showcasing a vision to transform the site into a green energy hub was unveiled in August
The multi-million pound, Net Zero focused development would include hydrogen production, storage and associated logistics, advanced manufacturing, energy and enterprise campuses.
SOSE are one of a number of partners in the programme, the others being the council, Nuclear Restoration Services (formerly Magnox), the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority and Borderlands Inclusive Growth Deal.
As previously reported, SOSE are set to take forward an Energy Transition Zone on a 6.5 hectare section of land adjacent to the main Chapelcross site.
This will aim to generate jobs and inward investment focussed on the transition to green energy production.
