Successful ‘vibe’ for building initiative

A GALLOWAY initiative has been recognised at the 25th VIBES Scottish Environment Business Awards.

A GALLOWAY initiative has been recognised at the 25th VIBES Scottish Environment Business Awards.

Led by the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA), the ceremony held in Glasgow on Tuesday highlighted the innovative approaches businesses are taking action to create a sustainable, low-carbon future.

And among the winners was Building Futures Galloway Ltd, taking home the Just Transition Scotland Award, which is given to those who deliver social, economic and climate goals across all sectors of the economy to build a better, more resilient and more equal Scotland.

Commenting on their win, a spokesperson for Building Futures Galloway Ltd said: “Building Futures Galloway is delighted that their work with young people looking for sustainable green jobs within heritage construction has been recognised with a VIBES award.

“The alignment of the traditional skills we teach – masonry and traditional joinery – with the need to address climate change is increasingly recognised and our charity matches this national need with the pressing local need for young people, without positive destinations, in a remote rural area.

“Receiving recognition for this work in rural Galloway is a special tribute to the young people involved.”

SEPA chair Lisa Tennant said: “Their stories of environmental leadership, innovation and sustainable working practices inspire others by showing environmental excellence can go hand in hand with business success.”
