Funding applications decided

And while Lockerbie Riding of the Marches and Gala Committee and the Lockerbie and District Music Society were celebrating, Lochmaben Royal Burgh Pipe Band was commiserating.
Members of Lockerbie and Lochmaben common good funds sub committee, made up of Annandale North Ward councillors and community councillors from Lockerbie and Lockerbie, met in Lockerbie Town Hall to discuss applications totalling £5400.
Lockerbie Gala requested £2000 from the Lockerbie Common Good Fund towards parade expenses for the 2015 event.
They were awarded 80 per cent: £1600.
Lockerbie and District Music Society applied to the same fund and asked for £400 and was awarded £200.
The pipe band from Lochmaben requested £1500 from both the Lockerbie and Lochmaben funds. Both requests were turned down.
After the meeting member Doreen Jenkins explained that it was felt that the band’s application did not demonstrate any direct benefit to Lockerbie and so did not merit an award.
And their application to the Lochmaben fund was turned down because they have previously received awards from the fund and it was felt the small amount of money available for disbursement could better benefit another applicant.
