College student wins apprentice plumber prize

DUMFRIES and Galloway College student Rick Marriot-Dodington is ready for a plum career role after being named SNIPEF’s Best Apprentice for 2024.

The Scottish and Northern Ireland Plumbing Employers’ Federation (SNIPEF) is the principal trade association for plumbing and heating businesses based in Scotland and Northern Ireland.

And Rick, who works for Dumfries firm Stevie Wight Electrical Plumbing Heating, was awarded the SNIPEF prize as top apprentice plumber for his consistent exemplary work throughout his training, as well as setting the standard within the classroom and helping to improve the standard of learning for other students.

Martin Loughran, lecturer in sustainable construction, Dumfries and Galloway College said: “We have no doubt, with his hunger for knowledge Rick, will enjoy a successful career in plumbing and heating.”

Stevie Wight Electrical Plumbing Heating, posting on social media, said: “Congratulations to our apprentice plumber, Rick, who won apprentice of the year at college. Keep up the good work and well done from the team. Best of luck as you continue to raise the bar for your peers in the industry.”

Rick added: “It’s a great career choice, with plenty of opportunities for problem-solving and having a bit of fun along the way.”
