CAPTAIN Tommy Muir admitted he had not the slightest idea that he would be leading the line for Annan Athletic against Cove Rangers.
It was quite the throwback for the former striker turned defender as he played up top and got his name on the scoresheet for the Black and Golds after heading in the equaliser in their 1-1 League One draw with the Aberdeen outfit.
Muir said: “We have a meeting at 1.15 pm for all home games. The manager came in, put the team on the board and I was like – yikes!
“I did play up there until just a few years ago. We’re obviously missing big Tommy (Goss). And we’ve maybe been lacking that presence up front, so I’m happy to go up there and try to do a job for the team.”
On his goal, Muir added: “I’ve missed that feeling to be fair. I don’t know what happened! It’s a goal and we’ve got a point. We’ll take it and move on.
“The manager says to us all the time – if we’re not going to win then make sure we get a point.
“I think after being behind at half-time, it was a good performance in the second half.
“Hopefully there’s more goals to come, but hopefully Tommy gets back and then it’s back to normal.”
Muir was unsure whether he would be back up front for Saturday’s trip to Dumbarton, while manager Wullie Gibson remained tight-lipped about his selection.
But regardless of where he finds himself on the pitch, Muir expects a tough game at the Rock.
He said: “I think Fraserburgh was a big learning curve for some boys that haven’t played proper dogfight lower league football.
“That’s exactly what it’s going to be like (against Dumbarton). So, hopefully boys will know what’s coming and will be ready for the battle.”
