They secured an outstanding 5-1 victory away to the bottom of the table Sons on a difficult grass pitch at the Rock.
Paul Smith, Wullie Gibson, Rhys Breen, Aidan Smith and Tommy Muir were all on target for the Black and Golds.
And the win, in Annan’s penultimate away contest of the year, has lifted Wullie Gibson’s men back in touch with the rest of the table and given them a cushion above Inverness who currently occupy the relegation play off spot.
Speaking after the win, delighted gaffer Gibson said: “The game had a lot riding on it. Dumbarton obviously had the points deduction, and they would’ve been looking at trying to claw the distance back. We’ve made the gap even bigger now.
“It was a great performance, on not a great pitch. We still managed to play the way we wanted to play. The play at times was unbelievable.
“It’s always good to see your team scoring goals, we’ve not scored enough and we’ve been slack at the back at times.
“We gave the boys a little bit of criticism during the week and I set them a target. That was to make sure we made ground on teams ahead of us and put Dumbarton behind us. Hopefully now we can just look forward.”
Travelling fans made their voices heard throughout the contest, especially after the full time whistle had blown when they celebrated with the players.
Gibson praised them for their backing, which has seen them travel all over the country. He added: “We owed (the win) to them. They travel a long way. It’s good to send them home happy. A big thanks to them. Players enjoy the encouragement from the fans. Yes, they’ve voiced their frustrations at times, but fans are entitled to do that.
“There’s no doubt that they’re 100 per cent behind us, behind myself and what we’re trying to do at the football club.”
