PARTS of Brydekirk were left without power today after a telegraph pole on the corner of School Street went on fire early in the morning.
Homes were affected and the village primary school was also closed for the whole day as a result of the blaze.
Residents took videos of smoke, flames and sparks coming off the pole.
Crews from SP Energy Networks attended to fix the problem.
An update on their website shared that restoration would take longer than expected as a result of repairs required to a section of overhead line near School Street substation.
The power was back on in the early afternoon.
A spokesperson for SP Energy Networks said: “At around 7am this morning we were made aware of a fault resulting in a power cut to a small number of homes in the area. We immediately attended site to make it safe, replace the damaged equipment and restore power to the homes affected. All homes had power restored by 2 pm today and we apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
