New Year shutout for keeper Ross

GOALKEEPER Ross Stewart admits his New Year couldn’t have got off to a better start after a win and a clean sheet.

Queens recorded their first shut out since early November in the league after Stewart made some decent saves to deny Cove Rangers last Saturday.

It was challenging conditions – especially for a goalkeeper – with thick fog descending around Palmerston.

Stewart said: “I couldn’t see my opposite number in the first half! I couldn’t even make out we scored.

“The fans behind me asked who scored the goal and I told them I don’t know.

“It was challenging conditions but it’s Scotland! I was buzzing with the yellow ball to be fair, that helped.”

On the clean sheet, Stewart added: “I was a bit gutted against Annan two weeks ago because I wanted that clean sheet.

“It was great to shut out Cove as they have been scoring a lot recently. We should have more clean sheets but that’s football.

“It’s a good start to 2025 with a win and a clean sheet. Now it’s all about going forward.”

Stewart has been one of the Doonhamers’ top performers this season, proving some of the doubters wrong when he signed during the summer.

And he believes regular game time has helped him get back into the swing of things.

He said: “I’ve probably played more games this season than I have in the last four years of my career. I’m loving it here.

“ I feel like I have a purpose coming into training and preparing for a game on Saturday.

“I know I’ve had my up and downs this season but I can’t wait to see where this half of the season takes us.”
