McDonald’s lodge drive thru bid with planners

PLANS for a £4 million drive-thru restaurant near Cairnryan are moving forward as plans have been officially lodged with the council.

Fast food chain McDonald’s submitted the application to build the eaterie in the grounds of the derelict Lochryan Hotel just off the A77 near Cairnryan to council planners just before Christmas.

If approved, the firm claims it would create about 120 jobs.

The burger barons initially unveiled their Cairnryan plans in the autumn and claimed there was ‘overwhelming support’ for the proposal at a public meeting in November.

Commenting on the latest development, senior acquisitions surveyor at McDonald’s Andrew Crewther said: “This is a significant milestone in our vision to bring a McDonald’s drive-thru to Cairnryan, serving both the local community and surrounding areas.

“We have been delighted with the overwhelming support the proposed restaurant has received from the local community, with 95 per cent of all of respondents writing to confirm their support for our proposals. This feedback reinforces the need for greater local food options, and we’re thrilled to be bringing forward a new McDonald’s restaurant to serve the area’s needs.

“I’d like to thank all those who have taken the time to provide comments on the proposals throughout our consultation programme”
