Tales from Circumnavigating the Globe

JOIN Kirsty Fisher at the Crichton later this month as she shares stories from her adventures sailing around the world.

The young geographer set sail from Antigua on board a 72 foot sailing yacht in January 2022.

In her talk on January 27 she will be reflecting on her observations of the interconnectedness of humans in a vast world, the changing tide for women in sailing and, in a world of fast paced living and travel, the importance of enjoying the journey along the way. Through microplastic sampling, she explores our far-reaching human impacts and a heightened respect for the sea.

Kirsty is excited to have the opportunity to share stories from her travels, she said: “I volunteered for the Royal Scottish Geographical Society as a teenager interested in Geography and was so inspired by all the stories of epic expeditions and adventures. I am so excited to have the opportunity now to share my own experience of a once-in-a-lifetime journey around the world.

“I only started sailing in my twenties but instantly fell in love with it, grasping every opportunity to get more experience and gain more miles, leading me to a career in sailing. I hope I can inspire others to step out of their comfort zone and say yes to opportunities that come your way. You never know where it might lead!”

Kirsty’s talk in Dumfries begins at 7.30PM on Monday January 27 at the Easterbrook Hall, for more information visit: rsgs.org/events.
