Town to host national team trials

FEMALE ice hockey players will be taking part in national team trials in Dumfries this weekend.

The Ice Bowl will host the second of three trials by Great Britain Women ahead of the 2015-16 season.
The first trial in Nottingham last weekend was attended by 41 skaters and there will be a third event in Sheffield next month.
The camps are part of the process for selecting the GB Women’s squad for the new season, during which they will play in division 2A of the World Championship and head to Slovenia next April.
Coach Cheryl Smith said: “It was great to see so many people at the trials and it proves that the desire to represent your country remains so high.
“We want the trial system to be open and fair to everyone, so that’s why we hold the open trial dates for anyone to attend.
“Even the current players have to attend the trial and we think it is the fairest system to choose the best girls for our squad this year.”
Coach Michelle Smith added: “This was an excellent camp and I am looking forward to the ones in Dumfries and Sheffield in the coming weeks.”
