DUMFRIES poet Peter Angelini, above, has penned a special poem ahead of Burn’s Night this weekend.
He is a great fan of the writer, who died in the town in July 1796.
Here’s his tribute:
Robert Burns was a great man of vision who we still mourn
We are proud of all he has done
Now popular, he has entered the heart of everyone
As we read his fine poems full of passion, feeling and even fun.
Soon we begin to understand the love he had for his country, Scotland
That our ancestors left to us in trust, this beautiful land.
Today in a world that is changing fast
Through his work we learn and appreciate more our glorious past.
Now, and rightly so, we recognise him as a poet, one of the very best,
From everywhere they travel to Dumfries to pay respect at his grave, where he lies at rest,
Rabbie’s talent was unique and he fully deserves the fame,
We know we will never see another quite like him again, Robert Burns.
