Stay out of the forests

UP to 90-mile-hour winds swept through during Storm Eowyn last Friday, impacting forests and woodlands locally and now Scottish Forestry is warning people to take extra precautions in the coming days with local forests.

A Scottish Foresty spokesman emphasised the dangers of the unknown when entering forests from the damage. The spokesman called the environment “highly dangerous,” pointing out the possibility of unstable trees. People are encouraged to follow their local guidelines and let professional crews handle the “potentially hazardous job,” the spokesman continued.

Scottish Forestry, stakeholders, and partners are all working together to determine the full extent of the damage. The evaluation will take weeks, but with the strong winds, Scottish Forestry is already following the Windblow Contingency Plan.

For those who may need emergency felling permissions, people should follow the Scottish Forestry website. People can find guidance on applications and contact information for their local sites.
