Dickenson is the real deal

QUEENS forward Brennan Dickenson admits he scored his first goal for the club in style.

The veteran, above, slammed home a stunning 25-yard free-kick into the top corner to seal a 3-1 victory over Dumbarton.

Now the goalscoring monkey is off his back, he wants more ahead of what he concedes is a “massive month” for the Doonhamers.

He said: “I’ve been looking for the first league goal and I’m glad it’s finally come. That’s a little bit of pressure off trying to get it.

“It was a great fashion to get it, I have practiced free-kicks on the training pitch. The gaffer is always striving for us to be better and do our extras after training, it has paid off.

There was a little debate with Josh Walker on who was going to take the free-kick. I asked him to do a little dummy before I took it and that worked – it put them off a little bit. I was quite happy it went right into the top corner.

“It’s a massive month for us now. We can’t concentrate too much on where we are right now. Throughout the season anyone can beat anyone.

“It’s a good time to put together a run of form. I thought we played well against St Mirren and we’ve continued that with wins in the league.”

Dickenson – who has had his share of injuries this season – played three matches in the space of a week, something that he didn’t think was possible but credits all the staff at the Dumfries club for helping him through the gruelling schedule.

He said: “I’m working really hard to keep fit. As one of the older players in the team it does take an extra day to recover. I’m doing everything possible with the gaffer and physio to keep me fit throughout the week and that I’m hitting the numbers at right time and not just aimlessly.”
