150 not out for hat-trick hero Rhian
CLINICAL FINISHER . . . Rhian Williams scored a hat trick for Annan and reached 150 goals for the club against Newton Stewart Ladies last weekend

They beat the Creesiders 5-1 at Galabank in the SWFL South. And it was a day to remember for forward player Rhian Williams who scored three goals in the clash to reach the incredible milestone of 150 goals scored for the club.

Annan broke the deadlock in the 35th minute when Jess Wallace found the back of the net, thanks to a brilliant assist from Rhian.

Just two minutes later the roles were reversed as Rhian scored, with Jess providing the assist, to give the Black and Golds a 2-0 lead going into halftime.

The visitors fought back in the second period. They pulled one back five minutes after the restart to raise hopes for a comeback.

However, Annan extended their lead once again midway through the half. Rhian capitalised on a goal kick from the Newton goalkeeper and weaved through the defenders before slotting the ball in off the post.

Her stellar performance continued as she completed her hat trick and notched her 150th goal for the club just three minutes later.

A corner from Phoebe Thorburn found its way across the box and Rhian recovered it, broke into the box and sent a powerful shot past the Creesiders ‘keeper into the net.

Annan’s scoring spree concluded two minutes from time when Grace Thorburn threaded a perfect pass to Jess who deftly beat the last defender and goalkeeper to secure her second goal of the match to seal a comprehensive victory for Annan.

The match was marred by an unfortunate accident in the second half where Newton Stewart’s Chloe Maxwell sustained an injury. All at Annan extend their best wishes to Chloe for a speedy recovery.

The result takes Annan up to second in the SWFL South League behind the in-form Cambusdoon.
