LOCKERBIE Academy’s talented air pistol team has, once again, had a successful time competing at the British Schools Air Pistols Championships in Cannock. The team of eight athletes qualified for the finals following the Scottish Schools Championships held in Grangemouth late last year.
For the first time, British Shooting were running a “youth team” category whereby athletes from any age group could compete as a team of three (on the condition it was not three senior athletes). It proved to be a great success getting more schools represented in the team categories. Competition was tough and the team of Jack Edgar, Emily Dick and James Dick did well but were out of the placings this time.
For the third year in a row, Emily earned a place on the podium, this time with a brilliant bronze medal (individual intermediate age group) in what was her last competition representing Lockerbie Academy.
The next highlight was the intermediate (S2-3) team winning the team bronze medal. It was the first year competing for Christopher Carruthers and Eben Mclaughlin, as well as Kate Edgar’s first year in this age group, so winning a medal at this level of competition was a huge achievement and a promise of more to come from them in the future.
The junior team, made up of James Dick, Lily Napier, and Otto Woolley, performed admirably, with Lily and Otto experiencing their first national final. They held their nerve, stuck to their training and finished a very credible fifth overall.
This outstanding achievement highlights the dedication and hard work of the Lockerbie Air Pistol team, with exciting prospects for the future.
