Last Saturday the Black and Golds were unable to extend their League One winning run as they fell to a 3-1 defeat to Paul Hartley’s men in Aberdeen.
Rhys Breen’s own goal put the hosts ahead before Annan levelled through another own, this time Connor Scully was the unfortunate goalscorer.
However, Cove added a second before the half hour mark courtesy of Findlay Marshall. And they wrapped up the points late on as the same man hit a wonder-strike into the top corner.
Speaking to club media after the game, Annan boss Wullie Gibson said: “There’s a little bit of frustration. We’ve had really high standards over the last few games, we just dipped below that today and we got punished by a good footballing side.
“We had a right good chance with Josh Dixon at 0-0, if he didn’t hit the post there then it might be a different game.
“I always say the first goal’s crucial and we find ourselves behind, it’s not a great goal for us to concede. I think the manner of the goals we gave away were disappointing.
“It was a very strong wind out there, and I think Cove penned us in quite well.
“I just felt that sometimes we forced it a little bit too much by going too direct.
“We had chances in the first half, you’ve got to take them.”
Tomorrow afternoon Gibson’s men return to Galabank to face play-off chasing Alloa.
So far this season the Wasps have won the fixture both times. Back in August they ran out 1-0 winners in Annan. And in November they hammered Athletic 5-0 at the Indodrill Stadium.
The Black and Golds will be looking to make amends and make it three home games unbeaten.
Gibson added: “I said to the boys (after the Cove defeat) – we’ve been on a good run, we’ve got to dust ourselves down, take the lows as well as the highs and bounce back (against Alloa).”
Rhys Breen could be a doubt for the contest after coming off late on against Cove feeling his hamstring.
