FOLLOWING back-to-back away defeats in his first two matches, Carlisle United head coach Mark Hughes earned the first point of his tenure on Saturday.
The Blues held Colchester to a goalless draw at Brunton Park as both goalkeepers put on impressive displays.
Home ‘stopper Gabe Breeze made the best save of the afternoon when he scrambled across his line to somehow tip over an effort from Lyle Taylor.
Speaking after the match, Hughes said: “I was pleased with the performance. I thought the lads did really, really well. We had a few walking wounded and a few that went down with illness before the game and during the game, so we had to make a lot of changes, shape-wise and personnel-wise, but the lads stuck at it, made it happen.
“Their keepers made a number of unbelievable saves, but Gabe’s save will be talked about for years I think by a lot of people, not just from Carlisle United.”
Fans will be pleased to hear that a 60 minute in-house training game on Tuesday saw the return of full back Archie Davies and midfielder Callum Guy. Both players could end up with pivotal roles to play in the run-in.
Carlisle remain bottom of the football league, six points adrift of Tranmere in 22nd, they have 15 games remaining to get to safety.
Tomorrow afternoon they are back on home soil to face Gillingham before a Thursday night journey to Barrow.
